One action provides the tourists with the opportunity to actively participate in cleaning up the event area, the other one provides opportunity to offset negative impact by donating to the organizer's environmental fund. Results show that almost 70% of spectators are willing to actively participate in cleaning up the event area, but less than a third (28%) is willing to donate to the environmental fund. Using CHAID analysis a number of socio-demographic and psychological variables were used to identify the segments of spectators who are willing to engage in either of the two behaviors. Results show that 1) drivers of the two behaviors are different and 2) four or seven distinctive groups of spectators were identified for the two behaviors, respectively. Discussion advances the theory of environmentally sustainable tourist behavior and provides avenues for sustainable destination governance. The study concludes with recommendations for tourism policy makers and industry on how to induce environmentally sustainable spectators' behavior in local destinations. Authors of article focused on extent and nature of media coverage of the ECoC 2028 project within the Czech media, and to explore public perceptions of the project. A mixed-methods approach was adopted, integrating both quantitative and qualitative methods. The study further presents an opinion of two focus groups evaluating the anticipated impacts of the European Capital of Culture (ECoC) programme. The first group comprised university students specialising in tourism management, while the second consisted of professional journalists and authors active in the field of tourism and hospitality. The findings from both research methods are surprisingly very similar. Only two extreme results from the media coverage were not confirmed in the focus groups. Due to the importance and influence they have on the environment it is crucial that their impact should be measured, reported and monitored through sustainability indicators. The system of sustainability indicators that they present for the destination should be uniform, comparable and publicly available. Regarding the fact that there are constant pressures concerning sustainability information from various external users, interested parties and legal requirements, it is important to set proper steps in measurement process at the tourism destination level and to define basic Sustainability KPIs which the tourism destinations will be reporting in order to keep track of their improvements and possibility of comparison with other similar tourism destinations. This paper presents international frameworks of sustainability indicators and steps regarding the process of setting measurements in the tourism destination. The paper also presents Croatian national regulations on tourism destinations reporting sustainability KPIs and current state-of-the-art of Croatian coastal top 5 tourism destination counties' difficulties in its application.  Classification-JEL: L83,O18,Q5 Keywords: sustainability information, sustainability KPIs, tourism destination, sustainability framework Journal: Acta Universitatis Bohemiae Meridionalis Pages: 46-62 Volume: 28 Issue: 2 Year: 2025 DOI: 10.32725/acta.2025.008 File-URL: http://acta.ef.jcu.cz/doi/10.32725/acta.2025.008.html File-Format: text/html File-URL: http://acta.ef.jcu.cz/doi/10.32725/acta.2025.008.pdf File-Format: Application/pdf X-File-Ref: http://acta.ef.jcu.cz/RePEc/boh/references/aub-202502-0003.txt Handle: RePEc:boh:actaub:v:28:y:2025:i:2:p:46-62 Template-Type: ReDIF-Article 1.0 Author-Name: Alma Zhilla Author-Workplace-Name: Fan S.Noli University, Faculty of Economic Tourism, Department of Marketing -Tourism, Rilindasit 11, Korca, Albania Title: The Role of Big Data in Promoting Sustainable Tourism Practices in Albania: Proposal for a National Intelligent Tourism Platform Abstract: In the context of digital transformation, Big Data has become a vital instrument in promoting sustainable tourism. This study aims to explore the potential of Big Data analytics to support sustainable tourism development in Albania, with a specific focus on designing a National Intelligent Tourism Platform (NITP). The main objective is to assess how real-time data, when properly collected and utilized, can enhance decision-making, optimize resource allocation, and minimize the environmental and social impacts of tourism activities. The research adopts a mixed-methods approach, combining primary data collected through structured questionnaires with 90 tourists and semi-structured interviews with 20 tourism-related businesses,5 experts in the fields of technology and 5 legal frameworks, alongside secondary data from national statistics, legal documents, and international reports. The findings indicate that Big Data can significantly improve tourism planning, visitor flow management, and sustainability monitoring. However, challenges such as fragmented data sources, inadequate digital infrastructure, and limited institutional coordination persist. The study concludes with six strategic recommendations for the development and governance of the Albanian NITP, emphasizing the need for cross-sectoral collaboration, standardization of data protocols, and investment in digital capacities. By addressing these factors, Albania has the potential to become a regional model for data-driven and sustainable tourism management.
